Just after seven Archie pulled up in front of Midge's home. He walked to the front door and rang
the bell. Midge, dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt, opened the door immediately.
"Arch, I'm so glad you are willing to help," she blurted out breathlessly, "come on in."
Archie followed Midge through the house and down the stairs to the basement rec room.
"My folks have gone to Bridgeport to visit my aunt. She broke her leg and needed some help with
her kids," Midge explained, "so we won't be disturbed."
Midge started telling Archie how much Moose liked him and that he had spent all summer talking
about how Archie had saved his life by helping him with final exams last spring. Midge told
Archie that Moose was afraid he was going to flunk out of school but now, with Archie's help, he
had passed all of his courses. He was especially happy because a couple of really good colleges
were interested in him for football scholarships and with his passing grades, he had a good
chance. Midge then began to talk about her plans for Moose's party. "I thought we could have the
party down here. Do you think this will work?"
Archie looked around and told Midge that the room was great. It consisted of almost the entire
basement. Part of the room was carpeted and had couches and cozy chairs; a large record player
stood against the wall....
